Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls: A Natural and Skin-Friendly Deodorant Formulation

Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® represents a novel approach to natural personal care by combining the antimicrobial efficacy of Piper betle extract with a skin-compatible balm base. This study focuses on the development of a herbal deodorant balm formulated [1] using betel leaf extract [2] along with natural waxes, oils, and functional excipients. The formulation demonstrates effective odor control, good physical stability, and favorable sensory properties, making Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® a promising alternative to conventional chemical-based deodorants.

Introduction to Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls®

The growing demand for clean-label and sustainable personal care products has led to increased interest in plant-based deodorant formulations. Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® is developed to address this demand by utilizing the natural antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of betel leaf extract. Piper betle has long been recognized for its ability to inhibit odor-causing microorganisms, making it a suitable active ingredient for deodorant applications.

When incorporated into a semi-solid balm composed of natural waxes and butters, betel leaf extract provides prolonged contact with the skin, ensuring effective deodorizing action. Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® not only neutralizes body odor but also enhances skin comfort, spreadability, and adhesion without causing irritation.

Role of Betel Leaf Extract in Skin Protection and Brightening

Beyond odor control, Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® offers additional cosmetic benefits related to underarm skin health. Underarm darkening is a common concern associated with frequent use of synthetic deodorants and shaving practices. Betel leaf extract contains bioactive compounds with antibacterial and antioxidant activity that help reduce microbial irritation and oxidative stress on the skin.

These properties contribute to improved skin tone by suppressing excessive melanin production and protecting the skin from environmental aggressors. As a result, Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® supports a brighter, healthier underarm appearance while maintaining effective deodorant performance.

Materials and Methods

Materials

  • Betel leaf extract
  • Arrowroot powder
  • Kaolin clay
  • Shea butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Beeswax
  • Essential oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Natural preservative

Methodology

Preparation of Betel Leaf Extract

Fresh betel leaves were collected, washed thoroughly, and dried. The dried leaves were powdered and subjected to extraction using a Soxhlet apparatus with 70% ethanol as the solvent [3]. The obtained extract was concentrated by evaporating the solvent on a water bath to yield a crude extract.

Preparation of Deodorant Balm

The oil phase, consisting of shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax, was weighed accurately and heated to a temperature of 70–75°C until completely melted. Arrowroot powder and kaolin clay were sieved and mixed separately in a beaker. The oil phase was allowed to cool to 45–50°C, after which the betel leaf extract was incorporated. Essential oil and vitamin E were added at approximately 40°C. The powder mixture was then slowly added to the melted oil phase with continuous stirring to ensure uniform dispersion. The final formulation was poured into stick containers and allowed to solidify. [1]

Formulation Strategy and Manufacturing Approach

The formulation of Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® involves the extraction of active constituents from betel leaves using a hydroalcoholic solvent system [3] to ensure optimal recovery of antimicrobial compounds. The concentrated extract is incorporated into a melted oil phase containing shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax, which together provide structural integrity and emollient properties to the balm.

Natural absorbents such as arrowroot powder and kaolin clay are integrated to enhance moisture control and improve the non-greasy feel of the final product. The addition of vitamin E and essential oils further enhances product stability and sensory appeal. Controlled cooling and uniform mixing result in a smooth, homogeneous balm that solidifies effectively in stick containers, ensuring ease of application and consumer convenience.

Results and Product Performance Evaluation

Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® exhibits a smooth texture, stable consistency, and excellent spreadability upon application. The formulation absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving an oily residue, providing long-lasting comfort throughout use. The presence of natural essential oils imparts a mild, pleasant herbal fragrance that complements the deodorizing action of betel leaf extract.

The product demonstrates effective odor control by reducing the activity of odor-causing bacteria while maintaining skin compatibility. These performance characteristics highlight the suitability of Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® for daily personal care use.

Conclusion

Betel Leaf Deodorant Balm with HyPearls® successfully combines natural antimicrobial efficacy with a skin-friendly balm formulation to deliver a safe, effective, and sustainable deodorant solution. The use of betel leaf extract provides reliable odor control, antioxidant protection, and potential skin-brightening benefits, positioning the product as a superior alternative to synthetic deodorants [4,5]. This formulation underscores the potential of herbal ingredients in advanced personal care applications and supports the growing shift toward natural deodorant technologies.
